If camping is getting back to nature, backpacking takes it up a notch, really allowing a person to become more of a part of nature. You’re on the trail, often miles away from reminders of modern life, reliant on what you can carry for shelter and food. Cooking well for groups while backpacking presents unique challenges.

Breakfast Cereal Recipe for Hikers

• 2 cups granola
• 1/3 cup instant dry milk powder
• 1/2 cup Craisins
• 1/4 cup brown sugar

1. Pack all ingredients in a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag.

2. When ready to prepare, add 1 cup cold water and shake. Eat out of bag with a spoon. Serves 1 to 2.
