Green Goods for Modern Dogs

I have recently realized as a “light green” that my eco-friendly habits are not restricted to my own day-to-day life: It’s time I let my dog Alex in on a green lifestyle.
I scoured the internet for eco-friendly pet products and was soon greeted by an adorable, animated green dog named Olive.

Olive Green Dog launched its fun and energetic online store of “green goods for modern dogs” in December 2007, selling both a variety of eco-friendly pet products and their exclusive, original line of eco-friendly grooming products and dog treats.

Bubble + Squeak Shampoo, Olive Soap Lump and Olive Fur Spritzer are accompanied by cute illustrations of the company mascot, Olive. The shampoo is free of parabens, sodium lauryl/laureth sulfates and phthalates and made with organic peppermint, rosemary and lavender essential oils and calendula. The soap lump uses goat milk as a natural moisturizer, citronella and lemongrass as a natural flea, tick and mosquito repellant and cedarwood to treat sensitive skin.

My favorite out of these three grooming products is the fur spritzer. I seem to never find the time to give my dog a bath (who loathes water in the first place—she is like a cat) and this is a perfect quick-fix. The product is made with essential oils lavender, lemon and patchouli, which give my dog a heavy, but soothing, scent.

Olive Green Dog also offers dog treats with fun names and original flavors: Nutty ‘Nanners, Happy Apple Snaps, My Oh My Pizza Pie and Little Berry Bites. My favorite out of these four flavors are the Little Berry Bites, a flavor released this winter. The other dog treats are a larger size than what I like to give my dog and I have to split them into two. And although I can’t give a personal testimony to how they taste, my dog loved them! They are packaged in 7-ounce bags and made with all natural organic ingredients and are wheat-, corn-, soy- and preservatives-free.

Have any of you tried out Olive Green Dog products? If so, what did you think? What other eco-friendly products do you like to buy for your furry friends? Let me know!
