Today’s marketplace has no shortage of “green” products—but how do you know if they’re truly green? Retail outlets are awash with greenwash, which is why we welcome any new resource that will help us determine what’s authentically sustainable and what’s just being marketed as “green” (but isn’t).

Columbia Forest Products, one of the nation’s largest hardwood manufacturers, recently introduced the PureBond Fabricator Network, an online network of manufacturers of formaldehyde-free cabinets, furniture, fixtures and millwork in the United States and Canada. Columbia formed the network after receiving many requests from customers wanting to know where they could find formaldehyde-free products that wouldn’t cost them an arm and a leg.

Using an online directory, homeowners, architects and builders can find local or regional manufacturers who offer plywood featuring Columbia’s PureBond formaldehyde-free adhesive. Traditional plywood uses a urea-formaldehyde adhesive, which has been linked to cancer and other health problems. Columbia’s PureBond products use an adhesive derived from food-grade soy flour and a wet-strength resin used in printed currency and milk cartons.
