I was lucky enough to snag a few hours of pool time this week, so I took the opportunity to give Yes To Carrots Hydrating Body Lotion With SPF 30 a good three hours of testing.

In short, it works—I don’t have a sunburn!  I have a few pros and cons to tell you about with Yes To Carrots Hydrating Body Lotion With SPF 30 natural sunscreen.

Yes To Carrots Hydrating Body Lotion With SPF 30 costs $15 for a 4.2-ounce tube. Photo Courtesy Yes To Carrots.

Pros: Yes To Carrots Hydrating Body Lotion With SPF 30 protects skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays with 10 percent zinc oxide while naturally moisturizing it with organic carrots, aloe and vitamin E. It has a light, pleasant scent. I like the easy-to-squeeze bottle that has the cap on the bottom so all the sunscreen if right there (no shaking and tapping!). The extra hydration and non-sunscreen scent makes this a perfect choice for an everyday natural sunscreen for legs and arms. As with all Yes To Carrots products, Yes To Carrots Hydrating Body Lotion With SPF 30 is free of parabens, petroleum and SLS.

Cons: It has a thick consistency that separates a little as you rub it in, which does take a little bit more elbow grease. Because it’s made with zinc oxide, you get a bit of that white cast on your body if you don’t smooth it into your skin good enough. It’s a little sticky, so as with any natural sunscreen, make sure to apply it at least 30 minutes before you go outside so it has time to absorb. “Fragrance” is listed as the last ingredient, so while there may be only trace amounts of potentially hazardous chemicals, be cautious. Yes To Carrots has not commented about the use of fragrance in its Hydrating Body Lotion With SPF 30 natural sunscreen, and the Environmental Working Group doesn’t have Yes To Carrots Hydrating Body Lotion With SPF 30 listed in its 2010 Sunscreen Guide.

What natural sunscreens do you like? Where do you draw the line with potentially hazardous ingredients? Leave me a comment in the comments section.
