Scars can be a source of insecurity for many. Because scars can take months to heal–and because scar treatment products need to be applied daily–it’s wise to choose a product made with safe, natural ingredients. Derma e’s Scar Gel is made with less than a dozen ingredients, none of which receive higher than a 3 on the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep Database review. Main ingredients panthenol and allantoin break down scar tissue while encouraging new tissue growth. Allicin, the active compound in garlic and onions responsible for their health benefits, has antibacterial properties, which are beneficial when using the Scar Gel on new scars. (Derma e does recommend that the wound be healed over before you begin using the gel, however.)

Derma e’s Scar Gel can be used on both old and new scars, as well as stretch marks, minor burns, calluses and skin hardenings. I used the Scar Gel to reduce the appearance of some old scars around my ankle and have been pleased with the results. The scars are hardly visible now! The gel spreads easily and dries quickly, so there’s no concern about it rubbing off on clothing or making a mess, and the non-oily formula means it won’t stain clothing.

Derma e’s Scar Gel received an overall rating of just 2, putting it in the low hazard range.
