Imperfect Beauty: Minimalism in Your Home

The ancient Japanese concept of wabi-sabi celebrates all things natural, humble, primitive. It’s an apt antidote to today’s sleek, technology-saturated world.

Flower arranging is an easy way to bring wabi-sabi into your décor. Simply arrange seasonally appropriate wild flowers in found objects such as baskets, gourds, old bottles, or rusty cans. Instead of cutting them to make the display perfectly symmetrical, arrange them to reflect their relative heights and natural disposition. To be truly wabi-sabi, the arrangement should include an odd number of flowers, and the stems should not be crowded.
