Gone Native: A Massachusetts Farm and Garden

Ellen and Robert Sousa's four acres of central Massachusetts river valley had everything they had dreamed of: woodlands, a pond, a stream and pasture. It just needed some wildlife-friendly, native plants and a little TLC.

The Sousas transformed this area from a badly eroded streambank into a rain garden with wild bergamot, boneset, garden phlox and little bluestem. The plant roots prevent further erosion.
